![]() ![]() I keep wandering in the darkness and find a path down to the next level. Hmm… it seems like that zombie dropped something… I hover over the small object and see “Health Potion”. I am almost out of mana already… Maybe I should use a mana potion. I use a few more, I hit, the zombie dies with satisfying sounds. I fire off some firebolts at him, missing, I need to work on my aim. Out of the darkness a zombie begins to sluggishly meander toward me. Wow! That was only the first monster and I am halfway dead! Maybe I should use one of my potions and heal and figure out how to use my spells. I decide a little bit of grave robbing never hurt anyone right? WRONG! A skeleton emerges from the crypt assembling itself before me as if by magic and begins attacking me! I fight back the only way I know how… by clicking rapidly! Swing, swing, UGH, UGH, swing, UGH, swing, the skeleton collapses into a pile of dead bones. It’s empty, just some barrels and sarcophagi. ![]() Am I going to die here? I guess there is only one way to find out. “The Sanctity of this place has been fouled!” I learned that loading screens means that there is content loading from the disc. I am already accustomed to loading screens having played games on the playstation. I go into the cathedral… A widing stair case… I watch this loading screen. I will destroy all the demons that stand in my way for my quest of power. I wander more and see a man reaching out, a pool of blood beneath him where he lie… “Please… Listen to me…” I hear his tale of a brutal demon who attacked him and how he barely escaped… “Your death will be avenged!” Whoa… did I just speak? My character has a voice too! I will avenge you strange man. Wow… maybe this is where I am supposed to go… I wonder if zombies or skeletons will spawn in there… No… Eventually I get bored and wander off the path and end up at a cemetry. Huh… Where is it though? I follow the path I guess… The walk is slow, tedious, but I endure. Talking to these people I learn their roles and learn of the problems plaguing them and of a cathedral filled with monsters. A man standing outside of what I can only guess to be the townhall. I walked further into the town and I see three others, an older man standing next to what looks like a fountain with disgusting water, another man in a white robe, and a burly man, clearly the black smith. Not just text I was reading but a voice! I real person’s voice! I was immersed. “Can’t a fellow drink in peace!” Sorry! I didn’t know I was disturbing you. Starting just outside of town, I wandered around not sure where I was supposed to go but I seen a man sitting by a house so I went to talk to him. Having played Light Crusader the first thing I felt was the similarity with the two games being in isometric view. I played one in Gauntlet Legends and I loved playing as the warrior wizard in the Sega-Genesis game Light Crusader. Of course I am going to go with my favorite arch-type, the caster. Only three characters to choose from… Warrior, Sorcerer, Rogue. I wasn’t sure what I was going to experience. It was so crazy to see these graphics although I did play the Resident Evil games this gave me Resident Evil vibes. A swinging shutter on a window in a ghost town, a crow pecking the eyeball out of a corpse. I remember vividly BLIZZARD NORTH splash screen and then opening into the first cinematic of the game. I played these two games extensively in single player and even dabbled with the Unreal Editor. My father just had brought home a Voodoo 3 Video Graphics Card. It all started back in 1998 playing games on a Windows 98 computer with intel Pentium Processor and 64MB of ram. ![]()
